Masks--protection from the spread of Coronavirus & Domestic Violence.
What to do while we honor the ‘Stay in Place’ measure? As I sat home, safe & healthy, I was overwhelmed by the data stating that the incidence of Domestic Violence was on the rise, complicating matters for at-risk families.
I sat down and created a mask that I thought would bring comfort and a sense of protection, at least where the virus was concerned. Crafted in the upcycled denim cloth that I have loved since my first pair of Levi’s, purchased at the County Seat years ago. I added a lining of swiss dot cotton lawn—an additional layer of protection—and knit straps that are a bit more comfy than plain elastic. I worked with local sewers to keep the work flowing and spirits raised but the footprint lowered.
I like to think of it as the Mother of all Masks—protector of self, families & this beautiful planet. Each piece, unique, made-by-hand, just like each one of us.
We will donate a portion of each sale, of each mask, to fund the efforts of La Casa de las Madres, the organization intent on ending domestic violence.
