Sahba Shere, Her Art & Salons

As I “Stay in Place”, I have time to reflect on the people who inspire me, either through their contributions to our communities or through their work.

Sahba Shere is one of those people who, beautifully, does both.

In her work, as an abstract expressionist painter, she fills me with emotions and transports me to places and memories every time I experience a piece of her work. I love her ‘Ethereal Blue’ series—Blue Velvet (at left) & Love is Blue (at far right). I get lost in each canvas—rich in depth, texture & color. Maybe it’s a condition of this pandemic time, but I sense a certain melancholy or longing in them. They hold me in a way, for which I am grateful.

The shades of green floral form, to me, appear like a ‘breath’ of a flower. Sabha captured it in the exact moment, just before it begins to collapse. She paints the delicate form for us to view forever, in the very moment it begins to fade. Art imitating life, right?

As an artist, a mother & a newlywed, Sahba is an engaged supporter of her community & her friends. She uses her Cubberly Artist Studio as a place for friends & colleagues to gather, share ideas, & tell their individual stories in a way that enriches all.

I joined Sahba at one of her recent Salons where she gave access to five women to share their individual, yet connected, stories of resilience, courage & friendship.

As we all Stay in Place, far removed from these types of warm engagement, it’s clearer to me how much we need them. How the act of sharing, listening & observing nourishes our mind and body in ways we couldn’t have imagined, yet in their absence, we now fully understand.

Thanks Sahba, you are an artist in the true sense of the word; challenging us to see the world differently and keeping our minds open to the journeys that we have yet to take.

Can’t wait for more. In the meantime, visit Sahba Shere Art…
