I love to sketch & paint, everyday;
and everyday objects are my muse.
A few months back, I planned a pandemic, coastal weekend away. Time to ‘do nothing’ was my big idea. However, being the sort for which ‘doing nothing’ is nearly impossible, I packed my Hamilton longboard; a book to read; my art supplies and somehow, forgot my sketchbook (I blame the pandemic). With no waves on the horizon & a book that could not hold my attention (I blame the pandemic AGAIN and not the writing)—my resourceful self decided that the pages of text might create an ideal canvas. And oh, how I immediately loved the effect.
What emerged from my weekend of ‘nothing’ became a discipline of ‘a-sketch-a-day’ in my upcycled sketchbook. The pages of the novel’s printed word provided a layered backdrop to the everyday items that inspired me.
