The Cozy Home Reality

The fog rolled in and the winds picked up, ever so slightly, as we dressed Green's Restaurant for Fibershed’s launch event featuring the new Cozy Home Collection.
Never being one to wish away summer, I had to admit that I was pleased with the dip in the temperature as we merchandised the woolen goods throughout the stunning space overlooking the Golden Gates.

Climate Beneficial Wool

In the past months, I had the opportunity to work closely with Fibershed producers in the creation of the Cozy Home collection which set a new direction to the product assortment currently being offered by Fibershed’s Marketplace.

The material approach was singular in its choice—every bit Climate Beneficial Wool (CBW). CBW is the natural wool that results from regenerative agricultural practices that restore our soil and, as a result, draw carbon out of the atmosphere and deposit it in the ground where it aids water retention and creates life sustaining systems. One might be surprised to learn that this wool is available right in our backyard— from Bay Area farming communities, of which there are many.

Buy Better, Buy Less.

Leveraging the growing Home category and creating products with greater accessibility —via price, consumer appeal and end use—became my mission. Working with photographer Kerrie Chappelka, we elevated the visual presentation to match the exquisite make & better price point which reflects the material choices and handmade nature of each item.

The resulting collection features pillows made from spotted Jacob shearlings; Eco prints; & tweedy woolens with horn buttons. Gorgeous hand knit throws featuring open work; broom stick handle large gauge stitches; and woven placemats in the most beautiful mix of patterns, meant to give your table rich texture for every meal.

I was thrilled to invite my San Francisco community to experience the collection, enjoy the food & drinks from Greens & to learn about the efforts of Fibershed. Rebecca Burgess, the Executive Director, and her team, work tirelessly to support the development of regional fiber systems that build soil & protect the health of our biosphere. Creating greater awareness and support for these programs is essential to their effectiveness.

Measuring hope, one pillow at time.

The evening generated incredible sales, the level of which surprised even me. The flurry of excited & inspired consumers spoke to the success of the evening, on so many levels.

My hope is that we learn to attach our consumer behaviors to soil health & to practices that allow us to thrive. Shifting Fast to Better; Disposable to Sustainable; Augmented to Organic— we gain a peace of mind knowing that these purchases are investment pieces, built to last; they make livelihoods possible, enrich communities, and build the foundational support for us to be ‘here’ & for Mother Earth to resume a natural rhythm.
